About Us

Catching Blessings aims to mentor aspiring filmmakers by connecting them with industry professionals throughout every stage of film production, including pre-production, production, and post-production. Our mission is to offer educational opportunities, hands-on experience, and professional guidance to emerging filmmakers, helping them grow and thrive in the industry.

Through workshops, seminars, practical projects, and personalized mentorship, we provide the tools and support needed to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers. Our goal is to equip them with the skills, knowledge, and connections necessary to create meaningful, impactful films.

The inspiration for this initiative came from my own college experience, where I noticed that prestigious film programs had access to top-tier equipment and resources, while others lacked the opportunity to explore their passion for filmmaking. Everyone deserves the chance to tell their story and let their light shine!

Damien D. Bell

Executive Director

Damien D. Bell is the Executive Director of Catching Blessings. A native of Lawndale, California, Damien is an alumnus of UCSB with a background in acting, production, and post-production. The idea for the program emerged after he graduated and sought to produce a film with his college friends. Damien brought together a team of both students and professionals to assist with production, turning the project into a valuable learning experience for the students involved. This opportunity allowed them to explore various aspects of filmmaking. Damien’s mission is to develop both skilled filmmakers and well-rounded individuals while creating a pipeline from education to the industry, preparing young filmmakers for diverse roles within the industry.

Amplify Diverse Voices: We are committed to amplifying underrepresented
voices in the film industry, including those of women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, indigenous communities, and other marginalized groups. By providing platforms and resources for emerging filmmakers, we strive to ensure that diverse stories are told and celebrated.
Cultivate Creativity and Innovation: We believe in the power of creativity to spark change and inspire new perspectives. Through our programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities, we nurture emerging talent, encourage experimentation, and support innovative approaches to storytelling.
